The Montessori approach
The principal goal of the Montessori philosophy is to develop the whole personality of the child. Each child is different and therefore should be respected for his uniqueness and ability to learn at his own pace.
The groups in a Montessori classroom are multi-aged ranging from 18 months old to 5 years old of age, offering the children a family setting. The older children are able to assist the younger classmates. Because at this age, children enjoy doing different tasks on their own, the Montessori approach offers the children a means to nurture their independence.
The classroom, referred to as the prepared environment, offers the child an opportunity to explore his autonomy through choices. The materials that are found in a Montessori classroom, the correct manner to utilize them and the attention to detail in the environment help the child to adapt to his needs.
